In the 1990s, Le Orme embarked on a period of change and new experiments. In 1991, the group decided to explore covers, participating in the television program "Sapore di mare" and performing songs by Lucio Dalla and De Gregori. In 1993, the compilation "Antologia 1970-1980" was released by Polygram, achieving moderate sales success but not providing the band the opportunity to record a new album. Moving forward independently, the band released the album "Il fiume" in 1996, followed by "Amico di ieri" in 1997, which was an anthology of their old hits reinterpreted. In 1998, Francesco Sartori left the band to focus on Sugar, and he was replaced by Andrea Bassato. Throughout the 2000s, Le Orme continued their artistic journey with two new studio albums: "Elementi" in 2001 and "L'infinito" in 2004, both part of a trilogy exploring the relationship between man and nature along with "Il fiume." In 2005, they participated in the Near Fest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, recording their first DVD titled "Live in Pennsylvania," which was released in 2008. Despite challenges following Bassato's departure the same year, the group regained momentum and announced plans for a new album. In 2009, after an important tour in Canada, Aldo Tagliapietra temporarily suspended his activities with the group and requested that the remaining members relinquish the Le Orme brand. Nevertheless, the lineup consisting of Michi, Michele, and Fabio decided to carry on and organized a new tour. In the subsequent years, Le Orme continued to perform on various occasions, participating in festivals and collaborating with other Italian musical artists. In 2016, they produced a revisitation of their 1973 album "Felona e Sorona," followed by a series of concerts both in Italy and abroad. In 2017, they announced a new studio album featuring original compositions and reinterpretations of historical tracks, accompanied by a chamber orchestra and two prestigious vocalists.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the group was forced to halt live performances, which resumed only in July 2021. In December 2022, they announced a double album of new material, with a presentation tour planned for 2023, marking what is expected to be the group's farewell tour.
Today's listening recommendation is "L'infinito," taken from the album of the same name.
