Music Theory

"Don't be afraid of theory anymore! Learn the fundamental concepts of music and gain a full awareness of what you play and what you feel!"

The Music Theory course is designed for those who wish to deepen their study of music theory, either for recreational purposes or to obtain a recognized international qualification. The course includes optional exams at the Grade 5 and 8 levels. Participation in the course does not require minimum requirements, as after an assessment by the teacher, the student is placed in the class deemed most suitable for their level of preparation (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced).

The goal of the course is to provide students with essential theoretical knowledge for instrumentalists and producers, while also being valuable for various other professionals working in the music industry. Alongside theoretical study, the course regularly includes practical exercises in ear training (aimed at improving the ability to quickly recognize intervals, chords, harmonic progressions, and other features of a musical performance by ear), transcription of pieces for different instruments, and harmonic analysis.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to approach a musical score for their instrument with confidence, navigating and understanding its structural, rhythmic, and harmonic aspects. The course covers a wide range of topics in music theory, following the guidelines of international certified training. These can be grouped into three main areas: Music Notation, Music Harmony, and Band Knowledge.

Therefore, among the topics covered in the course, proportionate to the attended level, we find: musical notation, rhythmic recognition, and types of time signatures; major, minor, and symmetrical scales; modes; specific harmonic devices (modulations, harmonic substitutions, modal interchange); techniques specific to individual instruments; recognition of stylistic traits in different musical genres. To assess learning and potential progression to the next level, regular assignments are given throughout the year. At the end of the year, a test is conducted to evaluate the possibility of advancing to the next level and the level of preparation for a potential examination.
