Here we are for the second appointment of the week dedicated to Phil Collins.
In 1984, Phil Collins composed "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", a song that gave its name to the soundtrack of the film "Against All Odds". This song became his first single to top the chart in the United States, reaching the peak of the Billboard Hot 100. "Against All Odds" also earned him his first Grammy Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1985 (lost to "I Just Called to Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder). In the same year, Collins produced the third solo album of Philip Bailey from Earth, Wind & Fire, titled "Chinese Wall", which includes the famous duet "Easy Lover", reaching number one in the UK. Additionally, he collaborated on Eric Clapton's album "Behind the Sun". In November 1984, he participated in the charity project Band Aid, playing drums on the single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", released to raise funds to fight food shortages in Ethiopia. In January 1985, he released his most commercially successful album, "No Jacket Required", propelled by the singles "Sussudio" and "One More Night", both of which reached the top of the charts in the United States. The album definitively established Collins's success as a solo artist, achieving diamond certification for sales. Towards the end of the year, he recorded the single "Separate Lives" with Marilyn Martin for the film "White Nights", once again topping the chart in the United States. This allowed him to become the only artist capable of placing three singles at number one throughout 1985. "No Jacket Required" won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. On July 13, 1985, Collins was one of the highlights of the global event Live Aid, also performing with Led Zeppelin replacing the late drummer John Bonham. He managed to perform first at Wembley, then in Philadelphia, traveling between the two cities in about three hours thanks to a flight on Concorde. Phil Collins's solo success does not seem to affect his membership in Genesis for now: in June 1986, Genesis made their return with the album "Invisible Touch", preceded by the titular single which became the group's only song to reach number one in the United States. The band received a Grammy and a nomination at the MTV Video Music Awards for the music video of the song "Land of Confusion". The tour for the album reached its peak with four consecutive nights at Wembley Stadium in London in July 1987. In 1988, Collins starred as the lead actor in the film "Buster", also contributing to the soundtrack with a new version of the classic "A Groovy Kind of Love", which reached number one in both the UK and the US. He also performed the song "Two Hearts", winning a Golden Globe and another Oscar nomination. In November 1989, his fourth solo album, "...But Seriously", was released, which was a great success thanks in particular to the single "Another Day in Paradise". In 1991, Genesis reunited to release the album "We Can't Dance", which would be the last recorded with Collins. This work features singles like "I Can't Dance", "Hold on My Heart", "Jesus He Knows Me", and "No Son of Mine". The subsequent tour sold out at Knebworth, with the largest audience ever in the UK.
